When Jamie and Tom were nearing time to move to Pennsylvania, having purchased a home with five acres for horses, Jamie got back in touch with the man she’d bought Amari from. She went to his farm to look at potential geldings, but the only one available that Jamie really liked was far too expensive. She admired Niki, but she wasn’t looking for a mare. Then the owner’s wife pointed out that you could breed a mare, something Jamie’d never thought of doing. The next thing you knew, Niki was Jamie’s.
As it happened, Jamie decided to try breeding Niki in 2002. First, though, Jamie had her tested for deleterious genetic markers; it turned out she was a carrier of a potentially lethal condition. Jamie decided not to breed her, which led to Jamie’s purchasing Carson.
Niki is a flea-bitten gray, 14.1-hand, registered purebred Arabian mare born in 1998.
